Rainbow (also known as Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow or Blackmore’s Rainbow) were a British rock band controlled by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore from 1975 to 1984 and 1994 to 1997. They were originally established with American rock band Elf’s members, but Blackmore fired all the members except Ronnie James Dio who would leave in 1979. Three British musicians joined in 1979, singer Graham Bonnet, keyboardist Don Airey, former Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover, and this line-up gave the band their commercial breakthrough with the single “Since You Been Gone”. Over the years Rainbow went through many line-up changes with no two studio albums featuring the same line-up. Other lead singers Joe Lynn Turner and Doogie White would follow, and the project consisted of numerous backing musicians. The band started out combining mystical lyric themes with neo-classical metal, but went in a more streamlined commercial style following Dio’s departure from the group.
Rainbow were ranked No. 90 on VH1′s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. The band has sold over 28 million albums worldwide and 4 million albums in the United States.

Terri Lynn Sauson, known professionally as Terri Clark, is a Canadian country music artist who has had success in both Canada and the United States. Signed to Mercury Records in 1995, she released her self-titled debut that year. Both it and its two follow-ups, 1996′s Just the Same and 1998′s How I Feel, were certified platinum in both countries, and produced several Top Ten country hits.
Her fourth album, 2000′s Fearless, though certified gold in Canada, was not as successful in the U.S., producing no Top 10 hits. Pain to Kill from 2003 restored her chart momentum in the U.S. with “I Just Wanna Be Mad” and “I Wanna Do It All”, while a 2004 greatest hits album produced the Number One “Girls Lie Too”. A non-album single, “The World Needs a Drink”, and the 2005 album Life Goes On were her last releases for Mercury before she signed to BNA Records in 2007. There, she released the singles “Dirty Girl” and “In My Next Life”. Although the latter went to Number One in Canada, she has not released an album for BNA.
Clark’s albums have accounted for more than twenty singles, including six Number Ones. “If I Were You”, “Poor Poor Pitiful Me”, “Emotional Girl” and “In My Next Life” all topped the country charts in Canada, “Girls Lie Too” reached Number One only in the U.S., and “You’re Easy on the Eyes” was a Number One in both countries.

The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. For the majority of their history, the band consisted of Sting (lead vocals, bass), Andy Summers (guitar) and Stewart Copeland (drums). The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and are generally regarded as one of the first new wave groups to achieve mainstream success, playing a style of rock that was influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. The group disbanded in 1986, but reunited in early 2007 for a one-off world tour lasting until August 2008.
Their 1983 album, Synchronicity, was number one on both the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200, and sold over 8 million copies in the US. The Police have sold more than 75 million records worldwide,and were the world’s highest-earning musicians in 2008, thanks to their reunion tour.
The band has won a number of music awards throughout their career, including six Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards (winning Best British Group once), an MTV Video Music Award, and in 2003 were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[3] Four of their five studio albums appeared on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The Police were included among both Rolling Stone’s and VH1′s lists of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time”.

The Velvet Underground was an American rock band, active between 1964 and 1973, formed in New York City by Lou Reed and John Cale, who both went on to find success as solo artists.
Although experiencing little commercial success while together, the band is often cited by many critics as one of the most important and influential groups of the 1960s.In a 1982 interview Brian Eno made the often repeated statement that while the first Velvet Underground album may have sold only 30,000 copies in its early years, “everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band.”
Andy Warhol managed the Velvet Underground and it was the house band at his studio, the Factory, and his Exploding Plastic Inevitable events. The provocative lyrics of some of the band’s songs gave a nihilistic outlook to some of their music.
Their 1967 debut album, The Velvet Underground & Nico (which featured German singer Nico, with whom the band collaborated), was named the 13th Greatest Album of All Time, and the “most prophetic rock album ever made” by Rolling Stone in 2003.In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked the band No. 19 on its list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time”.The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, by Patti Smith.

The Bee Gees were a pop music group that was founded in 1958. The group’s line-up consisted of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their decades of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a rock act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as prominent performers of the disco music era in the late 1970s. The group sang recognisable three-part tight harmonies; Robin’s clear vibrato lead vocals were a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry’s R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the late 1970s and 1980s. They wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.

Bullet for My Valentine are a Welsh heavy metal band from Bridgend, formed in 1998. The band is composed of Matthew Tuck (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Michael Paget (lead guitar, backing vocals), Jason James (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Michael Thomas (drums). They were formed under the name Jeff Killed John and started their music career by covering songs by Metallica and Nirvana. Jeff Killed John recorded six songs which were not released; two of these tracks were reworked later in their career as Bullet for My Valentine. Financial difficulties dictated the name change, which was followed by a change in music direction. In 2002, the band secured a five-album deal with Sony BMG. The band has stated that their music is influenced by classic metal acts such as Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Slayer. The band is part of the Cardiff music scene.

Nicholas Edward “Nick” Cave (born 22 September 1957) is an Australian musician, songwriter, author, screenwriter, composer and occasional film actor.

He is best known for his work as a frontman of the critically acclaimed rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, established in 1983, a group known for its eclectic influences and musical styles. Before that, he fronted the group The Birthday Party in the early 1980s, a band renowned for its highly gothic,challenging lyrics and violent sound influenced by post-punk, blues and free jazz. In 2006, he formed the garage rock band Grinderman that released its debut the following year. Cave’s music is generally characterised by emotional intensity, a wide variety of influences, and lyrical obsessions with religion, death, love and violence.

Upon Cave’s induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame, ARIA Awards committee chairman Ed St John said, “Nick Cave has enjoyed—and continues to enjoy—one of the most extraordinary careers in the annals of popular music. He is an Australian artist like Sidney Nolan is an Australian artist—beyond comparison, beyond genre, beyond dispute.

Leonard Norman Cohen, CC GOQ (born 21 September 1934) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, poet, and novelist. His work has explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships.Cohen has been inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is also a Companion of the Order of Canada, the nation’s highest civilian honour. In 2011, Cohen received a Prince of Asturias Award for literature.

The critic Bruce Eder assessed Cohen’s overall career in popular music by asserting that “[he is] one of the most fascinating and enigmatic … singer/songwriters of the late ’60s … [and] has retained an audience across four decades of music-making … Second only to Bob Dylan (and perhaps Paul Simon) [in terms of influence], he commands the attention of critics and younger musicians more firmly than any other musical figure from the 1960s who is still working at the outset of the 21st century.”

The Academy of American Poets has commented more broadly on Cohen’s overall career in the arts, including his work as a poet, novelist, and songwriter, stating that “[Cohen's] successful blending of poetry, fiction, and music is made most clear in Stranger Music: Selected Poems and Songs, published in 1993, which gathered more than 200 of Cohen’s poems … several novel excerpts, and almost 60 song lyrics … While it may seem to some that Leonard Cohen departed from the literary in pursuit of the musical, his fans continue to embrace him as a Renaissance man who straddles the elusive artistic borderlines.”

Resisting the musical trends in New York City, vocalist/guitarist Craig Finn (ex-Lifter Puller) formed the Hold Steady after moving from Minneapolis in 2000. Wanting to capture the sound of bands such as the Replacements and the Grifters, he recruited guitarist Tad Kubler (also ex-Lifter Puller), drummer Judd Counsell, and bassist Galen Polivka. Recording mostly live, the band released its debut, Almost Killed Me, on Frenchkiss Records in March 2004. Dave Gardener (Rocket from the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu) and Dean Botulonis signed on to produce Separation Sunday, which arrived in 2005. The World/Inferno Friendship Society’s Franz Nicolay (keyboards) and Bobby Drake (drums), formerly of End Transmission and Arm, were also added to the Hold Steady lineup. The band’s third effort, 2006′s Boys and Girls in America, marked its first release for Vagrant.

After writing the majority of their fourth record on the road, the Hold Steady returned to John Agnello’s Water Music studio to record Stay Positive, their most heavily produced effort. In July of 2008, the album was released by both Vagrant and Rough Trade. In 2010 the band announced the departure of Franz Nicolay. Later that same year they released their fifth album, Heaven Is Whenever. In 2012 the band went on a brief hiatus, with frontman Craig Finn releasing his debut solo album, Clear Heart Full Eyes. Regrouping with new guitarist Steve Selvidge in 2013, the revitalized five-piece re-entered the studio to record a track for the Game of Thrones soundtrack — which was also released as a limited-edition single on Record Store Day 2013. Near the beginning of 2014 they announced the release of their sixth album, Teeth Dreams.

With her piano-fueled songwriting, witty wordplay, and slight vocal vibrato, Ingrid Michaelson carries the tradition of the female singer/songwriter into the 21st century. Befitting a musician of the digital age, Michaelson first gained wide exposure through spots on TV soundtracks, including Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill. Born and raised on New York’s Staten Island to an artist mother and classical composer father, she began exploring music through piano lessons at the age of four. After college, she toured with a national theater troupe and spent her free time writing songs, later compiling them into an online-distributed recording entitled Slow the Rain.

Michaelson blazed her own trail by independently issuing her proper debut, the engaging Girls and Boys, in 2006; following the inclusion of her music in several episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, she then released a remastered version of the album on her own Cabin 24 Records in January 2007. Three months later, she won a national songwriting contest sponsored by Mountain Stage, a radio program produced by West Virginia Public Broadcasting and distributed worldwide. “The Way I Am” was then picked up by Old Navy, who used it to soundtrack one of their clothing commercials, and Michaelson began making headlines as one of the country’s most promising independent artists. A benefit project comprised of live recordings, new songs, and rarities, Be OK was released in 2008. Michaelson joined the Hotel Cafe Tour that fall in support of the album, whose proceeds went toward cancer research, and later toured Europe alongside Jason Mraz.

For her “proper” follow-up to Girls and Boys, Ingrid Michaelson retreated to a Manhattan studio alongside producer Dan Romer. Forty newly composed songs were whittled down to a total of twelve, with more emphasis being paid to the songwriter’s peppier material. Featuring a string section on several songs, 2009′s Everybody proved to be Michaelson’s most expansive, confident effort to date, and she followed its release with another cross-country fall tour. In 2012, Michaelson returned with her fifth studio album, Human Again with production from David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor, Stevie Nicks, The Bangles) and featuring the single, “Ghost.” It earned critical praise and performed better on the charts than any of her previous albums. The follow-up Lights Out appeared in April 2014, with 14 Michaelson originals and several guest appearances, including Greg Laswell, Mat Kearney, and A Great Big World.

Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Fireworks are a pop-punk band whose music fuses an energetic, guitar-driven attack with tuneful melodies and personal lyrics. Formed in 2005 in Metro Detroit, Fireworks features David Mackinder on lead vocals, Brett Jones on lead guitar, Chris Mojan on rhythm guitar and backing vocals, Kyle O’Neil on bass, and Tymm Rengers on drums. The year they formed, Fireworks cut a demo called Can’t Hardly Wait, and in 2006 they made their official recorded debut with a six-song EP, We Are Everywhere, released by the indie label Run for Cover Records. Fireworks hit the road hard in support, sharing stages with the likes of Set Your Goals, Valencia, and Strung Out, as well as appearing at the Vans Warped Tour. In 2009, Fireworks signed with Triple Crown Records and released their first full-length album, All I Have to Offer You Is My Own Confusion. The album was produced by Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory, who would tour with Fireworks, as did Saves the Day, H20, and Four Year Strong. In 2011, Fireworks returned with their second album, Gospel, and lots more touring followed, including visits to Europe and Australia. In March 2014, Fireworks dropped their third full-length, Oh, Common Life, and booked a U.S. tour in support with the Wonder Years, Real Friends, Citizen, and Modern Baseball.
